A REUNION OF OLD FRIENDS

A REUNION OF OLD FRIENDS

Remembering a fleeting moment during August of sixty-nine
which brought two musicians together for an experience divine.
Inviting his genius to perform on a humble and modest stage
created an uproar which became the inception of a legendary age.
From rock and roll revival to a funky rendition of Monk
the NRBQ played also country with a good addition of funk.
Along with Wilson Pickett and the Mwandishi of Hancock
they rattled the rafters of the Beacon and blew off my socks.
Full of eclecticism and interpretive brilliance their influence
captured me with power and mastery and an utmost elegance.
Chicken picking guitar with a portion of blues “Flat Foot Flewsy”
was Fergie’s pleasure with “Ain’t it Alright” which left us not choosey.
The Folly Farm was a countryside community where I played my strains
with my favorite band with my friend Joey who always entertains.
This man played the bass with a groove that even Chuck Berry loved
to the point of placing him on a special film for his sixty years of
giving the world his poems and songs and his special recipes.
Wrapping up an evening with a smile and musically as ease
Joey sang about New York where he was born amongst us beings
Always willing to lend a hand and helping us with agreeing
Soft spoken and warm-hearted he visited my brother Willy
inspiring him to be a bassist and playing the upright for Rockabilly.
Then came that fateful day when this old hippy turned sixty four
singing the Beatles tune with a twist and a jovial metaphor.
He jammed with his brother and my joyful ears were once again full
with his grooves and magical melodies and an aura which lulls.
He celebrated my special day with our homecoming and get together
taking us both back to our youth where life was filled with simple pleasures.
